Civic & Community Service

During the year, we hold a variety of drives to support organizations such as Richmond Friends of the Homeless, Sylvia's Sisters, Caritas and Change the World RVA.  At any meeting, we might be collecting hotel-sized toiletries, clothing, paper goods, bed and bath linens, feminine hygiene products or candy and eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt. We also make monetary and in-kind donations to various other community organizations.

Our Education committee oversees projects related to schools and education.  In 2018, the committee purchased books for the Chalkley Elementary School library and hosted school supply drives.  We have also helped out in other, smaller ways, including providing goodies to teachers during teacher appreciation week.  In addition to our concentrated efforts with this one school, the Education committee also oversees the awarding of the MJWC Community Service and Leadership Scholarships.  Each year, these scholarships are awarded to graduating girls from area high schools.  Award criteria are attendance at a  college or university and outstanding community service and leadership during her high school career.
