Our Committees

Civic & Community Service
During the year, we hold a variety of drives to support organizations such as Richmond Friends of the HomelessFamilies First, and the YWCA's Domestic Violence Emergency Shelters.  At any meeting, we might be collecting hotel-sized toiletries, clothing, paper goods, bed and bath linens, feminine hygiene products or candy and eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt. We also make monetary and in-kind donations to Warren's Hope,  Chesterfield Christmas MotherMeals on Wheels, the Carolyn H. Miller Memorial Fund and CCHASM.

Our Education committee oversees projects related to schools and education.  In the fall of 2005, the committee purchased backpacks and supplies for 15 children supported through the YMCA's Bright Beginnings program.  All of the children attend an area elementary school that has been the recipient of our support throughout the school year.  We provided "Welcome Back" goody bags for the teachers in the fall and over 100 loaves of breakfast breads for the teachers at Christmas.  Several club members read to the children on Dr. Seuss' birthday in March.  We have also helped out in other, smaller ways.  In addition to our concentrated efforts with this one school, the Education committee also oversees the awarding of the Mylicia Markham Leadership Scholarship.  Each year, this scholarship is awarded to graduating girls from area high schools.  Award criteria are attendance at a  college or university and outstanding community service and leadership during her high school career.
